2026 Alumni Hall of Fame Spotlight | Maggy Lewis Gregory

Maggy Lewis Gregory is a principal in and the managing partner of Gregory Legal Group, PLC, a law firm in Chatham, Virginia which specializes in family law, elder law, and trusts and estate planning and administration.  Subsequent to graduating from Lancaster High School and Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School in 2001, Maggy attended the University of Virginia where she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology before attending law school at the College of William and Mary.  There she received the Order of the Coif for graduating in the top 5% of her class. After receiving her J.D., Maggy clerked for two years for a trial court on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, before relocating to Southern Virginia and beginning the private practice of law.  Her practice focuses on complex trust and estate planning, including high net worth and taxable estates and focusing on family farms and family business succession planning.  

Maggy served for 7 years as the National Chair of the American Bar Association’s Agriculture Law subcommittee and she has participated as a keynote presenter for Generation Next with the Virginia Department of Forestry for the past eleven years.  She is also a member of the Virginia Association of Elder Law Attorneys.  Outside of the practice of law, she serves on the board of directors of the Danville Regional Foundation, a philanthropic community development endowment, most recently as the chair of the community investment committee, and previously served on the board of directors for both Middle Border Forward and the Arc of Southside Virginia. Perhaps most dauntingly, Maggy has recently taken on the position of serving as vice president of the PTO at Gretna Middle School, where both of her sons attend.  In addition to being the mom of two middle-school-aged boys, she and her husband Clark together operate Gregory Family Farms, raising and finishing meat lambs and pastured beef in a farm to table operation for families and chefs across Virginia from their 260 acres in Halifax and Pittsylvania County.
